Quick update before going to bed…

A reader let me know that Austin Arguello and Grant McElroy are also racing at Natz. Good luck guys!

Just came in: Sam Rosenberg is also down there- good luck Sam!

Had a great meeting with folks from Cycle Oregon, Travel Oregon, ODOT, Parks and Rec, IMBA and PDOT. A bike tourism website is in the works.

In terms of the crash at High Desert- the purpose of the whole exercise is to get people talking about sprinting, the importance of holding your line, being aware of other riders and defending yourself. The comments are great to see.

Just for giggles, here’s the speed and elevation data from the 1/2 race at High Desert (click on the picture for the full size version you can actually read). If you want more info click here. The 1/2 field finished the 60 mile course in 2:15 with an average of 26 mph.

Note: Data from mile 46 to 56.5 is not pack data- was in a break with 3 other guys, dropped off at mile 55.5 and was picked up by chase group. Remaining 3 were eventually caught by the chase group. I came off at 1.5 K to go- caught by the pack at 1K. Finished just off the tail end of the field.

Tomorrow: more thorough updates along with the results of the destink project.

I’m pooped. ‘Nite

Yes, the HD RR was FAST!!!!

I have been racing for many years in Oregon/Washington, the High Desert RR was the fastest average speed of any RR I have done that was not “flat”. The race had 2300ft of climbing and we still had a 26.4 according to my flight deck…….My legs and lungs still hurt.
