A quick update before bed-
So you’re a hungry bike racer looking for good eats at a reasonable/moderate price in Bend. You’ve already had a Mexi-Wrap for lunch and you’re craving a little Italian. Maybe a little pasta or a pizza. K-Man and T-Girl stopped by Ciao Mambo- a great new restaurant on Wall Street.
I got to chat with Gary Sather, the owner of the 4th restaurant in the Ciao Mambo chain. Originally from Corvallis, he and his wife were living in the Moscow, ID/Pullman, WA area where he worked in IT. He got sick of it and decided to move. The spot in Bend opened up (the lease was up for the previous owners of the restaurant and they wanted to pull out of the business) and a match was made. They opened the place in April and it’s been a success since then. They were thrilled to have the Cascade Classic finish right in front of their restaurant- so much so he says he wants to make reservations to have the crit finish in front of his restaurant again. (Gary was also really cool and gave pizzas to the officials who were working the crit.) Even some of the pro teams fell in love with the eatery. Rock Racing made an appearance numerous times during the classic and BMC loved it so much they came every day and made special arrangements to eat “family style”.
As for the food- excellent. Here’s a menu. The salad was full of fresh greens, the pizza made to perfection and the pasta done right. Service was friendly and the interior was cheerfully decorated.
A big plus, Gary’s not only a bike race fan, he enjoys riding himself.
