I've had great luck with a baking soda pre-wash soak. Third to half a cup in a bucket. Add stinky clothes & enough water to cover them. Soak at least a few hours but overnight is best. Then wash. You can also add the same amount to the washer when you do the laundry too.
We picked up the honkin' huge 5# bag at Costco pretty cheap.

K Man, I would just start by washing your clothes on a some what regular basis. Usually helps! Only washing your clothes once per month will eventually lead to fowl odors...

I agree with Erik, some times the stink comes from things that do not get washed every time. Last year I had some horrible gloves that a science class would have loved to study.

Win detergent is made just for removing odors from athletic clothing. I order mine from the company, but you can buy at some of the running shoe store in Portland. They have a dealer listing on their web site. It is the best stuff at getting the stink out!

Will do Q- and Erik, I knew I could depend on you for some possibilities. Let's see if there are some other ideas out there. I stuck the collar of one in vinegar today. Kinda stunk up the house. Whoops. We'll see if that works.

I've been wondering the same thing for a while. I asked people the same question and they're always like "don't you wash your clothes?", well, the thing is is that I wash my clothes after every ride and eventually the stink comes...

At first I thought it was just some kinda bacteria, so I tried drying them a little bit in the drier before setting them out, because air drying in an Apt is sometimes a no-no. That seemed to work for a while.

I ran across a product review in cycling news that is a laundry additive for specifically washing jerseys and bibs, etc... They said it worked, but that was last year and I haven't seen it locally. Maybe QBP has it?

I've kinda reserved myself to thinking that cheap lycra is like capylene, or polypropylene, etc... that the funk never ever leaves.

Let me know if you get answers!

I am not very fond of using lots of chemicals, but I have found oxy clean helps with the odors quite a bit. You don't have to use it every time, but it seems like every now and then, the jerseys just reek, even after a quick one hour ride. This is the time for chemicals. I've also tried spray and wash, which is pretty good, and Simple Green...not sure if that helped or not.

It would be cool if you could experiment - wash one jersey in a load with oxy clean, another with simple green...maybe start with the one you have now and see how it works.

The other thing I've noticed is it might not be your jersey at all, but maybe a vest of something you don't wash after every ride.

I'd love to hear what others have to say. Because, well, I've been known to stink up the house upon my return.
