Yup- the perennial favorite of fireworks going off in the neighborhood. We’ll have to keep the windows shut so Miffster and Kiffster don’t panic.
Got back from a wonderful ride- the weather was perfect! Not too hot- and the shifting was AWESOME.
I replaced the cassette, replaced the chain rings and changed out the chain. It felt like I was riding a new bike. No hesitation, no skipping, it shifted like I feel Dura Ace should. No more “ka chunk, ka chunk” when changing gears- smooth. I’ll have to check all my cassettes now- (all 7 of em). As some would say… “totally rad.”

Here’s a question to all you readers- how do you get stink out of a jersey? For some reason- my two team jerseys have started to stink this year. I’ve never had the problem with my past jerseys. I wonder if it’s because I now wear them on every ride that I do. Well… the stink sucks- and it makes my nose wrinkle. What are some suggestions on getting it out? Mirazyme works for a bit- then it comes back. Febreeze only covers it up. Erik V? Heidi? Brooke? Molly? Anyone???

Mark Duff asked that I post this:
The other day I made a post about an issue I had with how a promoter was choosing to pick the Best Oregon rider at Cascade. In my rant, I did not think of how I would affect that rider. Although she remained nameless, it affected her and possibly others. It was not an attack on her, I did not mean to take anything away from her. I did not mean to make the claim that she did anything wrong or unethical. The rider in question was Suzie Weldon. She has raced at the highest level all over the US and abroad. She is by far one of the most professional, first rate racers we have in the Pacific Northwest. I would like to publicly apologies for my poor form and absolute disregard for another persons feelings. I am sorry Suzie, extremely sorry. I did not mean to offend anyone, most of all you. Wishing you the best at Cascade.

In other news- Butch has cancelled the CMG Crit Series.
And looks like Short Track is a big hit with the juniors! Patrick Wilder writes that “Last week a record breaking 32 juniors lined up… Also impressive are the number of junior women coming out to tear it up in the dirt. One junior racer had so much fun she brought 3 of her friends with her last week!!”
Great to see this!
Also… I’m still looking for officials for the Hell of the Cascades race. Please shoot me an e-mail if you can help.
Willamette Pass just e-mailed me and they will be getting in their paperwork for the races at the end of the month. Look for details as soon as I get their stuff.

I am not very fond of using lots of chemicals, but I have found oxy clean helps with the odors quite a bit. You don’t have to use it every time, but it seems like every now and then, the jerseys just reek, even after a quick one hour ride. This is the time for chemicals. I’ve also tried spray and wash, which is pretty good, and Simple Green…not sure if that helped or not.
It would be cool if you could experiment - wash one jersey in a load with oxy clean, another with simple green…maybe start with the one you have now and see how it works.
The other thing I’ve noticed is it might not be your jersey at all, but maybe a vest of something you don’t wash after every ride.
I’d love to hear what others have to say. Because, well, I’ve been known to stink up the house upon my return.

I’ve been wondering the same thing for a while. I asked people the same question and they’re always like “don’t you wash your clothes?”, well, the thing is is that I wash my clothes after every ride and eventually the stink comes…
At first I thought it was just some kinda bacteria, so I tried drying them a little bit in the drier before setting them out, because air drying in an Apt is sometimes a no-no. That seemed to work for a while.
I ran across a product review in cycling news that is a laundry additive for specifically washing jerseys and bibs, etc… They said it worked, but that was last year and I haven’t seen it locally. Maybe QBP has it?
I’ve kinda reserved myself to thinking that cheap lycra is like capylene, or polypropylene, etc… that the funk never ever leaves.
Let me know if you get answers!

Will do Q- and Erik, I knew I could depend on you for some possibilities. Let’s see if there are some other ideas out there. I stuck the collar of one in vinegar today. Kinda stunk up the house. Whoops. We’ll see if that works.

Win detergent is made just for removing odors from athletic clothing. I order mine from the company, but you can buy at some of the running shoe store in Portland. They have a dealer listing on their web site. It is the best stuff at getting the stink out!

K Man, I would just start by washing your clothes on a some what regular basis. Usually helps! Only washing your clothes once per month will eventually lead to fowl odors…
I agree with Erik, some times the stink comes from things that do not get washed every time. Last year I had some horrible gloves that a science class would have loved to study.

I’ve had great luck with a baking soda pre-wash soak. Third to half a cup in a bucket. Add stinky clothes & enough water to cover them. Soak at least a few hours but overnight is best. Then wash. You can also add the same amount to the washer when you do the laundry too.
We picked up the honkin’ huge 5# bag at Costco pretty cheap.
